Raw, nearly untouched textures and surfaces, along with respect for the original silhouettes, served as the starting point for this design. Sumo is an interpretation of the japandi aesthetic.
The chair’s form begins with a simple, rounded volume — reminiscent of a neat piece of dough, like the Japanese dessert mochi. Through a few precise, carefully considered cuts, the shape transforms, acquiring subtle movement and expressive character. The result is an armchair that combines sculptural simplicity, comfort, and a serene emotional presence, while keeping the material as authentic as possible.
